If you try it, do a power matrix on scrap material first. There's no preset that works for every canvas brand. Some are coated; some aren't. The coated ones are a mess.
Where the F1 Ultra hits its limits
Let me be honest about the constraints:
- It is not a metal cutting laser for plates thicker than, say, 0.03 inches. Use a real fiber cutter.
- The diode laser can tackle acrylic, but it's not a CO2 laser. Thick acrylic edges need polishing.
- Software setup is not plug-and-play. Expect to spend a weekend learning the material library.
- Ventilation is non-negotiable.
For our scale, those limits are fine. For a factory producing thousands of parts, they're not. But if you're a small business, a workshop, or a service bureau, this machine fills a very useful gap.
Looking back, I should have bought it six months earlier. At the time, I worried we'd use it once a month. Instead, it's become a queue. The ROI isn't just the invoices we no longer pay; it's the speed of iteration. Marketing gets a prototype in an afternoon, not a week.
